Freya Yost is an American singer-songwriter and visual artist. Originally from Vermont, she moved to Italy in 2007 and spent many years deeply immersed in the arts. Freya’s childhood roots in rural Vermont were watered by traditional folk music at every turn. She spent many evenings during her youth, at Celtic music sessions, and old time fiddle gatherings, in kitchens, tents and venues around the state, dragged around, along with her siblings, by her mom, who sang and played in various bands.

Thanks to French-Canadian musician/step dancer Benoit Bourque, who engaged a small selection of students at Freya's school to tour with his La Danse des Enfants troupe, Freya began performing at age 12, playing festivals across New England and Quebec.

Living most of those years on back roads, and dependent on generators and solar panels for electricity, Freya’s powers of self-invention, and reinvention, developed honestly. With a mom completing a recording engineering degree in the attic, and a step-father building world-renowned Froggy Bottom Guitars in the shop down the driveway, Freya discovered her own creative ambitions. Uninterested in formal music training, she taught herself guitar and piano and began to write songs while no one was listening or paying attention.

Freya released debut LP Delicate Elements in April ‘24: a collection of original songs that was produced, recorded, and mixed by her mother, Kristina Stykos. Her second studio album, An Offer of Water, will come out in early ‘25 and was made with artist and producer Lutalo Jones.
